Shams Charania Names NBA’s GOAT In His Eyes

Shams Charania is inarguably one of the two best reporters covering the NBA today. He and Adrian Wojnarowski largely control all the hoops-related stories that anyone cares to know about.

Over the years Charnia’s profile has grown pretty significantly. Between his flirty relationship with Kay Adams and his burner Twitter scandal, he blows up pretty frequently.

This week Charania appeared on a podcast and touched on a variety of topics.

One in particular that he delved into was who is the NBA’s GOAT in his eyes. Apparently it is neither Michael Jordan nor LeBron James.

“So for me, growing up, when MJ won his six championships, I was four years old,” Charania said.

“So, it’s hard for me to—people are like, ‘Yo, watch the YouTube videos and watch the games over.’ Like, it’s an experience. I feel like the greatest of all time is an experience, right?

“For me growing up, Kobe was someone that I watched very closely and the Mamba Mentality, killer instinct. I feel like some of those attributes, I felt like as a young, minority, parents from Pakistani background,” he continued.

“I felt like I could apply some of that in my daily life. The killer mentality, and just go get it-ness every single day. So for me, that was something that I gravitated toward.”

It is hard to argue with Charania’s selection there. Bryant is an all-time great.

That said – it still isn’t clear why James is excluded from the conversation. After all, he too came up at the same time when Charania was watching basketball.
