Real Reason Kings Abruptly Fired Mike Brown

Real Reason Kings Abruptly Fired Mike Brown

The Sacramento Kings made a surprising move by dismissing head coach Mike Brown on Friday.

This decision came amid a challenging stretch for the team.

While the Kings haven’t been very good in 2024, most didn’t feel like this was Brown’s fault.

That said – one core issue seemed to have been a big reason why ownership decided to fire him this week.

“The stern news conferences were beginning to wear on some players, team sources said, and were part of the decision to part ways with Brown,” Anthony Slater and Sam Amick wrote.

“His last postgame news conference, directed squarely at the team’s star guard, was delivered in the same week Fox appeared to be increasingly thinking about a future elsewhere.”

Tension with Fox seemed to play a sizable role in what happened, too.

“Fox gave a dismissive news conference of his own after the gaffe, skirting the questions and speaking for less than two minutes in all,” The Athletic added. “Reporters spotted Brown after Friday’s practice in an extended discussion with Fox. He was dismissed about 90 minutes later.”

Steve Kerr Reacts To Mike Brown’s Firing

Steve Kerr, the Golden State Warriors’ head coach, took a moment on Friday to react to Brown’s firing.

“Very disappointed to hear the news,” Kerr said.

“Mike is a good friend, a good coach. It just seems so shocking when a guy is unanimous coach of the year a year and a half ago. When you think about where that franchise was before Mike got there, where they’ve been the last couple years, the job he and his staff have done, it’s really shocking.”

Brown’s time with the Warriors really confirmed that he still had what it took to be an NBA head coach. In that respect, it’s understandably that Kerr would have strong feelings regarding what transpired in Sacramento.
