New Los Angeles Lakers head coach J.J. Redick’s first week at his new job just got a bit more messy.
A mere day after the organization announced that he was taking over for Darvin Ham, a former Duke student came out and alleged that Redick hurled a racial slur at her.
The young woman’s post quickly went viral on social media.
I’ve only been called the N word to my face by a white man once in my life and it was on the campus of Duke University while I was doing work with the basketball team. And today he was named the new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. What a world.

Big picture, it will be interesting to see if Redick ultimately opts to address the situation. The Lakers are currently in the midst of complicated trade talks and this distraction is the last thing they needed.
Particularly given how polarizing the Redick hire has been thus far.
Nevertheless, the situation is what it is.
Will Redick come out and respond to this woman’s claims, one way or the other? Time will tell.
