Ryan Day’s Marriage Problems Confirmed Amid Ohio State Firing Rumors

Ohio State’s most recent loss to an underwhelming, injury-riddled Michigan team has thrown Ryan Day’s job as the program’s football coach into a state of flux.

Since beating the Wolverines in 2019, Day has gone 0-4 against Michigan. The fact that his school’s arch rival won a National Championship last year while the Buckeyes have struggled to do the same has also complicated the situation in Columbus. Three prominent college football coaches have already been floated as potential replacements for him.

As if all that isn’t bad enough, in addition to his professional woes and all the rumors circulating over his impending firing, Day is facing trouble on the home front.

Earlier this week a report surfaced about his marriage woes and how all this was impacting his relationship with his wife, Christina Day.

A few days later, Bruce Feldman of the The Athletic confirmed the rumors

“Though Day seems to be having more fun behind the scenes this year than previously, people close to Day have talked privately about how emotionally hard this had been for his wife and young children,” he wrote.

“Coaches and their families often get the worst of being connected to proud programs with incredibly passionate fan bases. From what I’ve heard, this is all of that, times a million. And that was before Saturday’s disaster against Michigan — the most shocking outcome of a college football season of stunners.”

Feldman then doubled down on this during an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show.

“I think the issue is going to come back to, you know, Ryan Day, doing some evaluation of everything around him,” Feldman noted.

“From everything I’ve heard, it has been a really, really tough time for (Day’s family) in dealing with what they’ve been dealing with…and that was before Saturday. I think it’s only going to get worse.”

Day came into this year understanding the stakes. The pressure on him to do something of note with Ohio State in 2024 was immensely high.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t deliver.

Obviously things are fluid and can change at any moment, but it is increasingly looking like Day’s time with Ohio State will come to an end following this season.
